Dr. Stephen Lorimer is the Smart London Strategy and Delivery Officer for the Mayor of London at the Greater London Authority. He is responsible for plans and programmes in smart city technologies and innovation in digital public services.
He is the officer responsible for implementing the Mayor’s Smarter London Together Roadmap to make London the smartest city in the world. Together with London Councils and the Mayor’s Chief Digital Officer, he is forming the London Office of Technology and Innovation, a proposed partnership between and with London boroughs to transform digital public services for Londoners and get London’s best innovators to develop solutions to London’s challenges.
He is one of the authors of Digital Master Planning: An Emerging Strategic Practice in Global Cities with Anthony Townsend, led an impact assessment of the 2012 Olympics for Transport for London, and has published academic work in urban transport, housing energy data, and spatial analysis of cities. Before a PhD in data in the built environment at the Bartlett, University College London, he was a practicing urban planner and urban designer at the consultancy Urban Initiatives. Projects delivered included the Mayor of London’s housing design standards, the Aylesbury Estate Masterplan in Southwark, and an urban growth game for the HCA awarded the innovation of the year by Regeneration Magazine.
