Shamal Ratnayaka is the aviation strategy lead for Transport for London and has worked on all aspects of aviation policy for the Mayor of London over the last six years. This has included analysis of the implications for surface access, connectivity, airspace and the environment. He has been responsible for drafting submissions to the Airports Commission on behalf of the Mayor and most recently the response to the consultation on the National Policy Statement on airport capacity.
Over a decade at Transport for London, he has been focused on long-term planning of transport infrastructure, and has also worked on projects including Crossrail 2 and High Speed Two as well as the Mayor's Transport Strategy.
He is a graduate of the University of Oxford and the University of Bonn and previously worked for the Financial Times in London and New York.
