Biography

Rob leads the strategic development and operational planning activities at Northern, the biggest train operating company outside of London, operating 2,800 trains each day across the north of England. Rob joined Northern in 2001 where he has since led operational delivery and major programmes.

Rob chairs the industries RDG Performance & Planning Forum. He has been instrumental to the inception and development of the Northern Hub and Electrification schemes which have been the springboard for the transformation of the north’s rail services.

As a Chartered Engineer, Rob started his extensive railway career with British Rail in 1989, as a Graduate Engineering Trainee before moving to Railtrack in 1996 where he managed a range of signalling projects across the north. More latterly, Rob led the implementation of several large operational programmes, including the introduction of electric trains in the North West.
