Jonathan Stott is Managing Director at Gateley Hamer and newly appointed Chair of the Compulsory Purchase Association. As a Chartered Surveyor and accredited Expert Witness, he specialises in land assembly for major projects and in advising businesses and developers whose sites are affected by compulsory purchase on how to respond to such a threat, challenging compulsory purchase proposals, business relocation strategy, maximising compensation entitlement and compensation dispute resolution.
Jonathan’s involvement with the CPA, RICS and NIPA enables him to liaise with Government Advisors towards influencing policy relating to the promotion and use of compulsory purchase powers, to ensure the process is clearer, fairer and faster for all parties.
He regularly liaises with advisors within MHCLG, HM Treasury and the Department for Transport to discuss issues including the compulsory purchase reform agenda, land value capture and best practice for land assembly procedures. His primary focus is to ensure that compulsory purchase continues to be an effective tool to facilitate change that is in the public interest, whilst ensuring that affected parties are treated fairly and provided with the certainty they need, when they need it.
Jonathan is currently working on the following major infrastructure projects:
